Catalogue
The catalogue is the core database of the Calm system, and is used to house a descriptive record for every object in your collections.
The catalogue database contains fourteen record types which are designed for the cataloguing of different types of material and information.
Record types may be classified as being Archive, Local Studies Library or Museum. The default Museum record types are Object, Object Collection and Content, however you can classify other record types as Museum record types and make them available for use via the Museum menu.
For Museum use the most important record types are Object: used to catalogue individual objects and Object Collection: used for groups of objects such as a tool kit or tea service.
The two record types may also be used together to represent levels in a Collection by creating groups of records in a hierarchical structure if required.
Object and Object Collection records are based on the SPECTRUM Museum standard and all the SPECTRUM fields are available for use in museum catalogue records.
Catalogue records may be linked to other catalogue records as well as to Location records, Authority file records, Entry records, Loans In records and Conservation records. They may also be “issued” as loans.
Museum records may be linked in Tree hierarchies in the Catalogue database. The ObjectNumber field is used to link Catalogue records in a hierarchical structure to illustrate the component parts of a collection.
The Reports facility may be used to create catalogue reports using Word or HTML.
