Creating Location Records

From the Archive menu, choose the Locations Menu and New Location.

Here is an example of a blank Location record, place your mouse over (hover over) a blue question mark next to a field to view popup text containing more information on that field. See the Complete Field List in the Calm section for further details.  Please note that the example record will open in a new window, when you have finished and wish to return to this page, use the cross in the top right corner to close the window.

Location records are validated by Calm; you will receive an error message if you try to save a Location record with more than one LocationReference, Location, Type, Capacity or CapacityType field, if the One-per-record validation option is set in the Record drop-down menu. If you do have more than one of these fields in an existing record, you will be warned every time you edit the record.

The Locations Tree

In order to create a hierarchical location index, the Location field (in the Location record) is a Tree field. The separator used to indicate different levels in the location field is a forward slash or oblique (/). For example a location entry of: Store 1/Bay 1/Shelf 1 indicates that Shelf 1 sits in Bay 1 which is in Store 1. To view the Location tree from within the Location database, click the Tree button in the side button strip.

You may add child and sibling records into a Location hierarchy, and work with the Location tree using the usual Tree Menu functions.
