Search Dialogue

This option allows you to alter which fields can be searched through the Search dialogue boxes and the order in which they appear on the box.

The fields on the search dialogue box are edited as follows:

  • Choose the Search Dialogue option on the Administration menu.

  • A dialogue box appears showing a list of databases. Choose a database. In this example, we choose the Catalog database. (Ignore the Catalog_ option which is required by the system).

  • Once you have made your selection, press Modify.

  • Another dialogue box appears showing a list of fields. These are the fields available for the search dialogue box of the selected database. Fields currently appearing in the search dialogue are highlighted.
More field names can be viewed using the vertical scroll bar, or by typing the first letter of the required field.

  • Click on fields you no longer require in the search dialogue, this will remove the highlight.

  • Click on fields you wish to add to the search dialogue, to highlight them.

  • Once you have made your selections, press OK.

  • Another dialogue box appears showing the order that the fields will appear on the search dialogue box.

  • To move a field, select it then press the Move Up or Move Down button. You will see the field automatically move up or down one position.

  • When you are happy with the order of the list, press OK.

  • The previous dialogue box showing the list of databases appears. Press Finished, or choose another database.

Note: These settings are local, which means that in a client/server setup each client can have different search dialogue boxes. Also, it is important to exit Calm via the main menu after every time you change them.

There is also a Reset option (when you choose a database) if you wish to return the selected database's search dialogue box to its original field settings.

Special Searches

Most of what you can add to the search dialogue box are fields: you should be able to add every field in the database, unless that field has been made unpickable. In addition to these, listed at the very top of the list of fields (you may have to scroll up) are three additional options.

  • (any text) searches any text field in the database (this is the only option that searches more than one field at once).
  • (predefined search) runs a custom search that has been set up in the Admin program.
  • (record type) searches for a particular record type.
