Read only

A database, record or field is read only when you cannot write to it (i.e. change it).

Record

A record contains a collection of fields - information about an item or a group of items contained in the repository. A record may describe a physical item which could be loaned elsewhere. A database generally has many records.

Record name

In previous versions of Calm each record could be given a name, this is shown (prefixed with an exclamation mark) in the status bar whenever the record is displayed. More than one record could be given the same name.

Record type

The Catalogue database is subdivided in to Record Types to cater for different materials, every record has a defined type. For example, apart from the main Collection, ObjectCollection, Component and Object types, there are defined types for Photograph and Biography. We divide records into different types so that we can include specific fields in the record template. For instance a biography record includes a burial place field, while a photograph record includes an image field. The record type is shown in the status bar prefixed by a colon.

Regular expressions

Regular expressions are special codes used to define certain characters or character patterns in import and export format files.

Re-index

A process which Calm performs to recompile the index from the terms in the database.
