Database

A database contains a collection of related records stored as a single file. The records are indexed by Calm to make searching more efficient. The database is a tool for storing and organising.

Default

An initial or original value, for example a currency field may have a default of £ but can be changed to $.

Deselect

To click on an option box so that the tick in the box disappears; this disables the appropriate option.

Dialogue box

This is a window which appears on screen containing buttons and boxes, it needs to be completed (or cancelled) before you can continue. For example, if you choose to perform a search you will need to enter the details into a dialogue box.

Double-click

If you are instructed to double-click, position the mouse over the required item and press the left mouse button twice in quick succession. Double-clicking an icon/shortcut runs the appropriate program; double-clicking on an item in a list has the same effect as selecting the item and clicking the OK button.

Drag (and drop)

Some objects can be moved or resized by dragging them. To drag an object, move the mouse pointer over the object, hold down the mouse button, move the mouse to the new position and release the mouse button to drop the object.

DScribe

The database engine behind Calm.

Dserve

A web server module which provides a customisable Internet or Intranet front end for Calm. See the Other Axiell Programs page.
