Description56 PICASSO LONDON: Tate Gallery & NEW YORK: MOMA Picasso Sculpture Ceramics & Graphic Work/ The Sculpture of Picasso touring exhibition under different titles October 1967 - January 1968 (MOMA New York) The exhibition was shown at the Tate Gallery from 9 June - 13 August 1967 and at MOMA New York under a slightly different title, from 11 October 1967 - 1 January 1968 It apperars to have then been shown at The Art Institute of Chicago. Papers concern all venues Most of the sculptures were first shown in Paris, in Hommage ˆ Picasso, at the Grand & Petit Palais from Nov. 1966- Feb. 1967. Some papers in this Subject also relate to that as well, but see also individual Subject on it. Roland Penrose was the main organiser of the Tate exhibition, on behalf of the Arts Council- he helped persuade Picasso to agree to the exhibition (see his notes on visits to Picasso in other Subject), selected it, and wrote an introduction for the catalogue. He also negotiated with Picasso for the transfer of the show to MOMA, and wrote an expanded version of the Tate catalogue introduction, which became the main text in the MOMA catalogue/book, The Sculpture of Picasso. RP also attended the MOMA opening and lectured there & in Chicago on the exhibition. (For papers on other aspects of his visit to USA in 1967, see Subject on this). He was also involved in other events connected with the 2 shows., and loaned a sculpture to the Tate (Still-Life construction, 1914?)
