Description048 MIRO, Joan LONDON: Tate Gallery Joan Miro exhibition 1964 note: the exhibition was organised by the Arts Council and Roland Penrose. RP also wrote the catalogue introduction and entries. For the catalogue (various copies) see RP Writings shelves & Miró shelves. It was also shown at the Kunsthaus, Zurich, from Oct.-Dec.1964. Events associated with the exhibition were a reception at the Tate Gallery for Miró,(who visited the exhibition and stayed at Farley Farm) organised by the ICA on 15.9. 1964; and a reception at the ICA on 17.9. The exhibition Miró. Thirty Years of his Graphic Art ran concurrently at the ICA. The correspondence also covers these events, and Zurich. Mostly, however, it concerns the obtaining of loans for the Tate show. Some letters cover other Subjects as well (most are indicated below). Correspondence between RP & Miró is included (with 17 letters from Miró), but photocopies of these have been substituted by archivist for the originals, which are now in the Miró Correspondence Subject. Almost all of the material was in a file labelled by RP: Miró 1963-64 London exhibition (S.D-b.Alc14). It has been sorted into chronological order.
