| Description | The files in this section contain source material collected and compiled by Eduardo Paolozzi throughout his career. The files can be considered as 'day books' filled with material Paolozzi was working with at his sesk. The folders were moved from his studios in Munich and London and are a combination of material gathered by Paolozzi as a source of inspiration and as preparatory material for his works. They reflect his working practices which involved cutting out large volumes of material from magazines and other publications and reworking through tracings, drawings and multiple photocopies. A decision has been made to keep any correspondence or small loose sketches within the files.
The material in the source files dates from early 20th century through to 2001 and includes the following:
- correspondence
- pasted items
- photocopies
- leaflets relating to concerts, plays
- exhibition invites, catalogue and private view cards
- acetate cutouts for screen printing
- postcards of sculpture, wooden carvings, both historic and contemporary art.
- tearsheets from magazines,books, newspaper articles which refer to Eduardo Paolozzi and his works
- tearsheets from Christie’s and Sotheby’s sales and auction catalogues
