1980/ 1981
Poster (Note: the exhibition was organised originally as part of the Kings Lynn Festival 1980, to be shown at the Fermoy Centre only. The Arts Council then organised a tour to various venues: Fermoy Centre 25.7. -9.8.1980; ICA Aug-Sept.1980; Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, Oct.-Nov.1980; Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Preston Nov-Dec.1980; Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, Dec 1980 - Jan.1981.
During the private view of the Fermoy showing, Roland Penrose gave a talk in the form of a discussion with Antony Penrose, entitled "My Scrapbook 1900-1980"; and at the Arnolfini they discussed "Surealism Comes to England"
(probably the same theme).
Concurrently with the Fermoy exhibition, the Social History Museum in Kings Lynn, and Peckover House Wisbech, put on the Peckovers of Wisbech exhibition. (Papers which deal with the organisation of both at once are filed in this Subject; for those that cover only the Peckovers exhibition, see Subject on that)
To coincide with the exhibitions, the Arts Council reprinted The Road is Wider
Than Long - see separate Subject on this for related papers on the organisation of it, and RP's additional text for the new edition.
The Kings Lynn showing (& private view on 24.7.) was sponsored by Sothebys.
The ICA apparently gave a party during the showing there for RP, on 17.9., in relation also to his 80th birthday.
The Arts Council exhibition then formed the basis for RP's one man exhibition in Barcelona from Feb.1981- see separate Subject on this.
