Description | Folio album, full leather over wooden boards, gilt edges; contains mounted photo-reproductions of Victorian art, most with painted decorative designs of flowers, scenes or figures forming borders around them, or continuing the image; designs are in watercolour, gouache and one oil, and are initialled by various artists: 'TC', 'MM', 'EKH', 'MR'; one is signed 'TC 84'; they are generally high quality; some pages have pressed or collaged leaves and seaweed; caligraphed initials on flyleaf verso: 'WD'[?]; enclosed at the back are a number of loose reproductions. This album probably belonged to a Peckover, or possibly James Doyle Penrose. |
