Deleting Records

It is possible to delete records from the databases in Calm. Users without administrative rights can delete current records one at a time. Users with administrator rights can delete individual records or an entire hit list if required. User and administrator rights are set in the Security section of Admin.

To delete a record from the database:

  • Move to the record you want to delete
  • Select the Record > button in the side button strip, followed by the Delete button. The following box appears:

This will permanently erase this record from the database.
Are you sure you want to do this? Yes or No buttons, checkbox for 'Don't ask me this again'.

  • If you select Yes the record is erased from the database

In some cases you will be warned that deleting the record will also delete other linked records e.g. deleting an object record will remove any condition check records as well, or deleting a catalogue record will remove any conservation records, see the following box:

WARNING Deleting an item also removes its Conservation records. Do you wish to continue? Yes or No buttons.

Warning: Be careful when deleting records – there is no way to reliably retrieve them once deleted. To prevent records being deleted, you can use the security options to remove delete permissions. Alternatively you can make the database read-only, by setting the read only property of the database files using Windows Explorer.
