Title |
Ogbourne St George and St Andrew, Wiltshire. Certificate of visit.
|
Date |
30 May 1278
|
Description |
Certificate from Robert [Kilwarby], Archbishop of Canterbury, visiting the Diocese of Sarum in 1277, stating that he approached Marleberg [Marlborough] that he might enjoy an interview with Alianor, Queen of England, mother of the King: and turned aside to the manor of Ockeburn [Ogbourne] belonging to the Abbot of Bec Herewyn [Bec Herluin] and there remained for some days not for the purposes of visitation but only for hospitality, because it was most fit and nearest for his purpose; no precedent or prejudice should arise to the Prior and monks by reason of his tarrying with them.
