Formerly part of the bailiwick of Ogbourne. Philip, canon of South Malling, granted to the Abbey of Bec Herluin in Normandy, with his brother William's consent, the reversion of the church of Glynde with all its appurtenances after his death. His gift was confirmed, 1139-50, by Theobald, archbishop of Canterbury, and the church was appropriated to the monks. The advowson was acquired by the Dean and Canons of Windsor ( D & C ) in 1421.

Today, the benefice of Glynde, West Firle and Beddingham is in the joint patronage of the D & C and the bishop of Oxford.
