Numerical Fields

There are three types of numerical field in Calm: Number fields, Integer fields and Currency fields.

Integer fields are used for recording whole numbers, such as account numbers.

Number fields are used for recording numbers with decimal places.

Currency fields are used to record monetary values.

The format of values displayed in number and currency fields is dictated by the Regional Settings section in Windows Control Panel. If you enter a currency symbol, it must be the same as that specified in the Regional Settings. For example, if Regional Settings is configured to use pound signs (£), currency amounts in euros () will not be correctly understood.

The Regional Settings section in Windows Control Panel also specifies whether or not leading zeros are to be displayed e.g. .7 or 0.7 If you change Number or Currency settings in the Windows Control Panel, Calm automatically changes the format of currency amounts and numbers in existing records.

If you enter numbers in text fields, they will be sorted alphabetically e.g. 2000 will come before 21 unless you select the option to sort text as numbers - on the Sort Hit List box. Therefore you need to use numerical field types to sort correctly or if you want to search by ranges of numbers e.g. YearsServed>3.0

Note: Telephone numbers are not valid integers or numbers since they may contain spaces and other non-numeric characters. Use Number and Integer fields only for quantities that you could perform arithmetic on.
