Mandatory Fields
Certain fields in record types must be completed in order to allow Calm to work properly, such as the RefNo field in archive catalogue records or the ObjectNumber field in museum catalogue records. You may also require that certain information is entered on your records before they are considered complete, such as a location for objects in the catalogue. Any of these fields can be made mandatory using the Admin program to force users to enter data into them. There are two types of mandatory field in Calm.
Mandatory (Suggested) Fields
Suggested fields should have data in them. If you attempt to save or move away from a record with an empty suggested field, Calm will produce an error message. Unlike with required fields, it is possible for you to ignore this error message. If you turn off validation, the error messages will not be shown at all.
Mandatory (Required) Fields
Required fields must have data in them. If you attempt to save or move away from a record with an empty required field, Calm will produce an error message. Unlike with suggested fields, it is not possible for you to ignore this error message: you cannot leave the record without filling in the field. If you turn off validation, the error messages will still appear.
