The first screen & navigating the menus
The main menu is the first screen displayed when the Calm application is used. It shows the main options available, see figure below. Arrows like this: > after a module name indicate the existence of a sub-menu. Click on an option to view the sub-menu, and continue clicking on options until you reach the function that you require.
To navigate back through the menus, look for menu buttons with reversed
arrows like this: < which indicate that you can move back to previous menu
options. You may quickly navigate back to the main menu by clicking the
button at the bottom of the list of menu buttons.

The main menu of Calm
The options on the main menu function as follows:
- Archive Menu: For Archives; this option will take you to the full Archive Menu screen allowing you
to create and edit records using Archival Standards and settings.
- Local Studies Menu: For Local Studies Libraries; this option will take you to the Local
Studies Menu screen allowing you to create and edit records according to library principles and practices.
- Museum Menu: For
Museums; this option will take you to the Museum Menu screen allowing you to
create and edit records using Museum standards and settings.
- Authorities Menu: This option will take you to the full Authority Files Menu, please see the
Authority file section of this manual for information on which Authority Files
may be used by Archives, Local Studies Libraries and Museums.
- Extras Menu: This option will take you to the Extras menu which will contain buttons for any
"add-on" Calm databases you may have purchased, such as the Performance and
Image databases.
- Administration Menu: This option will take you to the Calm Administration Menu which contains
options allowing you to perform various administrative tasks from within Calm.
Please note: that this is a separate facility from the Admin program.
- Custom Reports: This option will provide access to any customised reports
which Axiell may have
produced for you.
- Exit Calm: This button will close the Calm application. Please note that Calm should always be closed using this button on the Main Menu and not by using any Windows shortcuts; this will ensure that any records you have been working on will be properly saved.
