Security database

The Security database in Calm allows you to set up individual passwords for your Calm users. You can use the Security database to assign permissions for your users which allow them different levels of access to the Calm databases. For example, a work experience student may be given the right to edit existing records in the Accessions database, but may not be allowed to create or delete records.

The Calm security database is separate from your network security which is administered by your I.T. department. Calm Security should be administered by your Calm Security Administrator, who should be a Calm user who has been given responsibility for security within Calm, not the person in your I.T. department responsible for Windows or network security.

It is important to use the Security database in an informed way, as deleting certain records in the Security database may prevent you from accessing Calm.  The procedure for starting to use the Security database is as follows:

  1. Assign one Calm user to be the Calm Security Administrator for your organisation.
  2. Have the Calm Security Administrator contact the Calm Helpdesk to request a copy of the security guide and read it.
  3. Once they have read the guide, they need to contact the Calm Helpdesk again to request a UserId and Password to allow them to login to the security database.
