About this manual

These pages are designed for both new and experienced Calm users from archives, local studies libraries and museums and include step by step instructions and demonstration movies. We have provided a Glossary with definitions of terms which may be unfamiliar. For accessibility reasons, this site does not use frames. You may find that, when viewing long pages, you need to scroll up the screen, or click a link to go “Back to Top of Page” to see the side menu.

Printing

This structure of this manual has been designed to be read via an internet browser. This offers the opportunity to make links to other relevant sections for further reading and to show demonstrations of Calm in action. Each page contains a "Print page" icon near the top to allow you to make a hard copy of the printable information on that page for future reference.

Navigation

To start using this guide, first go to the home page by clicking the Home button in the top right hand corner of the screen. The main sections are indicated by the large coloured buttons in the centre of the screen. Choose the Calm button if you are new to Calm, or choose the most suitable option for you from the Archives, Local Studies Libraries, Museums or Authority Files and Add-on Modules buttons. General topics are available via links in the top right hand corner.

You will also see a left hand menu which shows you further options related to the page you are looking at. The options in the left hand menu will sometimes expand into a submenu of pages relevant to the topic you have chosen. Click on a menu option to view the related information.

To return to the home page at any time click the Home button in the top right hand corner of the screen.

You can use the back and forward buttons on your browser to navigate your way through the site or choose to use the links on each page to move from one topic to another.

Demonstrations

Throughout this guide you will see options to click on links for a demonstration. When you click, a demonstration will begin in a new window. The demonstration will proceed, with step by step instructions to tell you how to complete the process being demonstrated for yourself.

Illustrations

Images of screens within Calm are shown as examples throughout this guide. The style of these may vary slightly from your version  of Calm, depending on the operating system you are using i.e. which version of Windows, Calm is running under.
